Simple Styling

Styling your home can be one of the toughest challenges, especially when there is so much choice available in the ‘home décor’ category. Who knew there would be thousands of options when it comes to buying a candle? Or simply a new cushion? Choice is great, we can’t deny the pleasure we get when there’s endless styling options at our fingertips but choosing correctly is what matters.

You need to consider the room you are planning to style; it’s size, colour theme and existing furniture. Remember that furniture can often be given a new burst of life, we absolutely love this dresser upcycled by Lisa Dawson. As mentioned in her blog, this blanket box belonged to Lisa’s grandmother and it now sits in her bedroom window alcove. Mixing old and new together is a great way to style your home, especially when the furniture is handed down through family. If any items you have simply don’t suit your styling plans then why not free-cycle by donating them to charity. Something that no longer suits your home could be perfect in someone else’s.

Colour schemes can be tough to decide on, especially paint colours, so why not buy samples and trial the colours that catch your eye. The Little Book of Colour by Little Greene is a great source of inspiration; demonstrating all shades imaginable. Dark Colours such as ‘Skree’ provide a striking backdrop and allow endless room for creativity with the contrast of bright colours.

Alternatively, the use of pink hues is stylishly on trend and can enhance the heritage of a room by highlighting original features. Our current favourite is ‘Confetti’ by Little Greene, a delicate pink which pleases the eye.

For Revamp Restyle Reveal, Olivia Silk (Lust Living) combined Earthborn’s ‘Cupcake’ pink with ‘Trilby’ charcoal grey in her living room, showing that it certainly pays to be brave with your colour choices.

In addition to paint colours, there’s the consideration of wall papers which also takes time and thought. The Zoffany ‘Muse Collection’ transcends a variety of styles and textures to complement all settings. Pictured is our ‘Doreen’ silk shades and the David Hunt Lighting ‘Sputnik’ pendant featured with the Zoffany ‘Muse Collection.’

When the paint and wall paper colours have been decided, it’s time to acknowledge your lighting, we can definitely help with the inspiration behind this one.

All of our shades are made to order, in our Oxfordshire workshop. Meaning that not only do we offer a selection of beautiful silk colours in our existing colour library; but we also have the capability to fulfil bespoke requirements.

If you have the desire to match a lamp shade to your colourful new wall paper, we can do this for you. Featured below is the David Hunt Lighting ‘Odyssey’ table lamp, featuring our 40cm Medium ‘Drum’ Shade, made with Linwood’s vibrant ‘Bangkok Nights.’

We believe in creating designs that suits your own perspective. If what we offer isn’t quite right for you, we can tailor to suit your needs. Read more about our bespoke service here.

It is so important to match your lighting to your home styling, after all it’s the lighting which creates an ambience in any room. Your lighting should provide a soft glow to highlight features within the room, finished off with accessories and soft furnishings to complement the rooms design.

A little inspiration can go a long way.
